Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular, but their growing use presents new challenges – particularly for residents of apartment buildings. If you already own an electric car or are planning to buy one, but it isn’t possible to install a charger at your residence, one inevitable question arises: where can you charge your car?
There may be several reasons why installing a charger at an apartment building is not possible:
- Parking spaces are not privately owned. In many apartment buildings, parking spaces are neither designated nor privately owned, which makes it difficult to install a personal charging solution.
- Limitations of the electricity network. In older buildings or densely populated areas, the local electricity network may not support the additional load required for charging infrastructure.
- Agreements with neighbours. In apartment associations, installing charging points requires the approval of other members of the association, which is not always easy to obtain.
- Costs and management. Installing a charging station is an investment that requires a professionally prepared, technically complete project and further management.
Fortunately, the solution in such a situation is simple. If installing a charger at home is not possible, you can use the public charging network instead. This allows you to charge your electric car wherever the need arises – in the city, on the road or even in smaller centres.
Charge using the public network just like at home
We have established a public charging network that covers Estonia and neighbouring countries, and we are continually expanding it. At present, our network is the largest in Estonia, comprising more than 1,300 charging connectors: 566 in Estonia, 145 in Latvia, 498 in Lithuania and 144 in Poland.
Altogether, there are nearly 1,300 charging connectors in Estonia across all service providers.
Why charging in the public network benefits you
Charging in the public network allows you to plan your journeys in a sustainable and cost-effective way and to charge when it suits you best. At all Enefit chargers:
- Charging is powered by 100% green electricity;
- A dual-tariff pricing system applies, allowing you to benefit smartly from night-time charging. In addition to the favourable energy price during evening and night hours, we have removed the time tariff at chargers with a capacity of up to 100 kW between 21:00 and 08:00. This way, you can leave your car to charge overnight without any worries. Read more about dual-tariff pricing here.
Where can you charge your car?
In Estonia, there are 169 locations where you can leave your car to charge overnight without a night-time tariff. You can find them on our public charging network map or mobile app by using the filter and selecting all chargers under 100 kW.
Please note that the time tariff does not include parking fees, and parking is subject to local regulations. Check the parking conditions before you start charging.
You can also see real-time charger availability and prices in the app, and save your favourite stations to make charging quick and easy every time. If you prefer, you can start charging at most Enefit chargers using a bank card – conveniently, without creating an account.
