When electricity causes trouble – is your home protected?

Home appliances are an unnoticed part of our daily lives – until one of them stops working. Often, it is not the age of the appliance that is to blame, but power fluctuations, lightning or electrical failures. The damage can amount to hundreds or even thousands of euros. That is when insurance proves invaluable.

Did you know that with Enefit’s electricity package, you can also take out electrical appliances and fire insurance? In co-operation with If Insurance and BTA, we offer a solution for dealing with unexpected events. The insurance companies have shared real-life examples of cases where damage was covered by insurance taken out with Enefit’s electricity package.

When power fluctuates and appliances fail

The figures from If Insurance say it all: in 2024, customers with Enefit’s home electrical appliance insurance reported 150 cases, and in the first half of 2025, there have already been 68. The average damage came to €660. Customers pay a monthly fee of €1.99–4.49 for the insurance, depending on the package they have chosen.

Examples of insured events:

    • lightning damaged an air-source heat pump;
    • following a power outage, the dishwasher, microwave, television and refrigerator stopped working;
    • power fluctuations damaged the ground source heat pump, security system, internet device and vehicle gate motor;
    • lightning damaged antennas, audio system, security cameras.

Why choose electrical appliances insurance?

    • Covers the risk of electrical failures, which many standard home insurance policies do not.
    • Low excess of €50 per insured event.
    • Allows you to call an electrician to repair the fault without having to pay the excess.
    • Provides real support if your home appliances or systems are damaged.

When electricity sparks a fire

Fires can happen suddenly and cause serious damage – even when everything seems perfectly fine. Enefit’s fire insurance, which can be taken out together with an electricity package, provides protection when disaster strikes. BTA Insurance has shared a few real-life examples below.

A docking station of a stick vacuum cleaner caught fire in a sauna room of a family. The fire and smoke caused significant damage and the door and window were also broken during the rescue work. The total damage was estimated at €15,400. Thanks to the family having fire insurance (€10,000) alongside their Enefit electricity package, BTA covered the full amount. This allowed the family to choose whether to restore the space exactly as it was or to create something completely new.

A fire caused by a fault in an electrical installation destroyed an outbuilding and damaged a residential building. The intense heat shattered the windows, costing €1,200 to replace – an amount that was fully reimbursed. However, the incident also highlighted an important point: while fire insurance covers residential buildings (apartments, houses, cottages), separate structures like saunas, sheds or greenhouses are not included.

Why choose fire insurance?

    • compensation of up to €10,000 with no excess;
    • quick initial payment of €2,000 in the event of major damage;
    • additional protection for your existing home insurance – also covers medical expenses, temporary incapacity for work or the rental costs of housing.

Is your home prepared for the unexpected?

Electricity and fire insurance is not just an additional service – it provides you with a sense of security when the unexpected happens. If you already have an Enefit electricity package, you can add insurance quickly and conveniently.
