An example for the entire sector: the production at Estonia’s largest ice cream factory is based entirely on green energy

Premia, Estonia’s largest and oldest ice cream producer, will soon celebrate its 70th anniversary. Premia’s mission is to provide the best ice cream bringing joy to both children and adults. Innovative solutions play a role in this, maintaining high quality and standing out from other producers.

But Premia’s ambitions go beyond delicious ice cream. The company is committed to environmental sustainability, which is reflected not only in the choice of raw materials but also in the production process. All of Premia’s ice creams are produced using 100% green energy, in other words, from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and biomass.

Premia’s aim is to be a role model in its field and to maintain its position as a market leader. Innovation and the green transition are integral to this vision.

Using green energy helps Premia reduce its carbon footprint, saving 2,800 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually – this is equivalent to planting 43,000 trees!

Premia’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond the use of green energy. The company has taken major steps to reduce its energy consumption over the past decade.

For example, Premia has replaced all luminaires in the factory and warehouse complex with LED lights operating on an automated control schedule. The production process includes the use of automated refrigeration systems. As a result of these steps, Premia has managed to reduce its energy consumption by as much as 43%.

In addition to using green energy, Premia aims to stay a step ahead of EU directives and general trends when developing its products and packaging. All their new packaging is recyclable and made from monomaterials, meaning a single type of material. This results in less recycling and a reduced environmental impact.

Premia is committed to continuing its use of green energy in the future. The company sees this as a clear strategic direction and is ready to make ongoing investments to maintain its market leader status.

In addition, Premia has ambitious plans for 2026, when the company celebrates its 70th anniversary. Expect new design changes and surprises in the ice cream range. Premia is confident that consumer preference for green energy and environmentally friendly products is increasing and will play an even more significant role in the future.

Reader asks: ‘How to keep electricity bills low in the winter months?’

Google has published a list of the year’s most searched words. At the top of the ranking we also find the keyword ‘electricity exchange price’. Indeed, the price of electricity has often been a topic of discussion, especially when it is expensive. Among other things, the year was marked by the failure of Estlink 2 and the resulting increase in electricity prices in the summer, when we would otherwise enjoy rather low prices thanks to high renewable energy production.
